“Today is the first day of the rest of your life”

Well, DUH, right? Of course it is.

But here’s the thing, I just spent my first day as a retired person. It feels particularly true today for me, after 19 years at Apple. I don’t know if there is another company where I could have had the career I’ve had and enjoyed it as much. I know Apple often gets called a cult, and there is some truth to that, but the other part of that truth is: people there are inspired to do their best, and I got to spend the last 19 years working with some of the smartest people around. It was challenging, and exciting and very rewarding.

But, as for the “First day of the rest of my life:” most of the day I was on the phone with AT&T getting my phone number extracted from the corporate account of my former employer and on to a personal account, so I don’t feel like I’ve been that productive, but really it was one big thing off the to-do list, so it’s a win.

What’s the update on the boat? I’m accumulating a large pile of things I need to ship to Cape Town to be ready to move aboard, so next week I’ll be working on that. The latest pictures out of the factory show that they are starting the install of the furniture, and plumbing. This weekend I hope to have more pictures into the build gallery from the last trip, so watch for that and a new blog post about the trip and maybe I’ll update the whole site with the new logo. I now have a lot more time to focus on the project, and I really want to bring you along!
